New Thought

In an earlier post I said that I was for the keeping of the Izod center for concerts and high capacity shows. On second thought, I'm not so sure. Giants stadium is right next door and has held many large concerts. There really isn't much of a need for two high capacity area right next to each other. If Xanadu can put something cooler instead, I'd be for it. I have a couple of ideas:
  • Indoor paintball stadium (stadium? field? court?)
  • Super go cart track
  • Planetarium
  • Beach (I actually really like that idea, big wave pool (part of the Flowrider? sand, towels, etc... skiing in the morning, go to the beach in the afternoon)
  • Amusement Park
If you have other ideas, please comment

Edit: Happy July!

IZOD center

The future of the former Continental Airlines Arena and current IZOD center his still undetermined. I was just at a Pearl Jam concert in Hartford CT, and it was amazing. Xanadu definitely needs a large enough arena for concerts with that kind of draw. When it was still Continental Arena, I went to three concerts there and they were awesome. Xanadu will have an 8000 capacity concert hall, but that will never be able to support the big name performers. So, you either have to replace the IZOD center with something better that can support concerts or you keep it. I'm sure they will make the right choice.

Helping you experience our trip (Part I)

Through pictures. Enjoy:

This is our first sighting of the landscape. The excitement was tangible.

A view from the road of the IZOD center. Our interview with security guard Whitney taught us that the future of the IZOD center was still up for debate. Some sides say keep it for concerts and large events. Others say tear it down. On the way home we debated what should replace it if it is in fact torn down. We couldn't come up with much. What doesn't it already have? I think my stance is that they should keep it for bigger concerts and major events. If they come up with an awesome replacement idea though, I'd reconsider.

Our fellow Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus fans. Helped us blend in a little and gave us a good excuse to be there. Plus we got to see a clown get owned in the dunk tank. Oh and $8.50 for a burger! Back in my day you get a burger for a nickel and you would still have enough change left over for trip to the malt shop. Kids these days with their music and hair and MC Hammer. DAMN YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!

I wish we could get inside to see what is really here. Our best guess is the end of the snow dome and beginning of the sports district. Or possible the sports district is on the other side and we don't yet know what this is.

It was certainly tempting to go in there, but we decided to hold off. It was just under the snow dome so I don't think we missed much.

More to come!
