Heros work on Xanadu
PARAMUS - A Westwood man said he didn't stop to think before scaring off three men who were savagely beating a teenager at a Paramus Road bus stop on Saturday.Edward Monahan, 26, of Westwood frightened away three men who were beating a teenager at a Paramus bus shelter.Edward Monahan said when he saw the attack, he had to act.
"I saw how vicious the attack was and what kind of condition he was in," Monahan said. "I had to act immediately."
Monahan, 26, had just left work around 4 p.m. on Saturday and was on his way to meet his wife at her parents' home in Fair Lawn when he saw three men beating another man under a bus shelter.
"They just kind of exploded out of the bus stop and the kid is on the ground on all fours," Monahan said.
"I had to swerve to avoid him," he said.
Monahan said he pulled over and ran toward the injured man, whom police described on Tuesday only as an 18-year-old Paterson man.
The three assailants, who Monahan said were wearing bandannas over their faces, scattered into the bushes next to Paramus Road.
The victim told police that the men approached him and demanded that he hand over his iPhone, police said.
The device was reported stolen but was found in the bushes near the site of the attack later on Saturday. Police continued to search for the attackers on Tuesday.
Monahan, had just left his job at the Interstate Drywall Co., which is helping to build the Meadowlands Xanadu shopping complex.
The victim, an employee at Victoria's Nursery, "was really badly shaken up," Monahan said. "He had the biggest welt I'd ever seen - it covered his whole neck and shoulder. He had a fat lip that was cut and bleeding. He had road rash on his elbows and knees from getting thrown on the ground."
The man was treated at the scene but declined to be transported to a hospital, said Paramus Police Chief Richard Cary.
Cary credited Monahan with scuttling the attack before it got worse.
"The victim had attempted to flee, and when he did that he was knocked to the ground and they began beating him," Cary said. "My feeling is that would have continued had Mr. Monahan not stopped there."
Heros. Good to know.

Aquarium Information
A commenter asked us for information about the proposed aquarium so I decided I'd make a whole post for this. I'll do a fake interview with my self:
Questioner: "Where is the money for this super awesome fish tank gonna come from?"
What Can't Xanadu?: "No need to worry tax paying citizens, no money is coming from the state. The primary financial supporter is Colony Capital, the company sponsoring most of the project."
Q: "Who will be running this Aquarium?"
WCX: "That's a good question, and quite frankly, I can't answer it. All that we know is that it will be run by an 'undisclosed private company that runs aquariums.' Adventure Aquarium in Camden is run by Herschend Family Entertainment and was previously run by Steiner + Associates."
Q: "If we don't know who is running the Aquarium, how do we know if it will be a good job?"
WCX: "Carl Goldberg, the sports authority's chair, said that the undisclosed company currently in negotiations is "really world renowned for ecological sensitivity and very well structured aquarium experiences." With no other information to go on, I will trust Chairman Goldberg. I also find it extremely hard to believe that a company would put the time and money into this effort for a shoddy job."
Q: "Why is the Aquarium operator undisclosed?"
WCX: "I don't know the true reason, but my best guess would be that because the bill has not passed making the Aquarium a legal possibility, their are other legal issues involved in naming the company. They might just want to play it safe."
Q: "Who is building the Aquarium?"
WCX: "Cumming Corp, the same company building the rest of Xanadu. It's possible that they are running it as well, but I don't know."
WCX: "Thats all the time we have for now. Thanks for all the questions. See you all next time!"

Xanadu Aquarium nears OK
All that's left is for Governor Corzine to sign the bill allowing an aquarium in New Jersey not called Adventure Aquarium located in Camden. I'm sure he will sign it.
Here's another quote from our hero Robert Gordon:
Gordon described Xanadu as "a major economic and entertainment engine in northern New Jersey," adding that the aquarium itself would be a valuable educational tool for children.I agree 100%.

Our Surprise
Tuesday, June 17, 2008
The Aquarium Approved!
On Monday, the state Senate committee unanimously approved the aquarium addition to the Xanadu complex. The hero in this story is Sen. Robert Gordon- D-Fair Lawn. The biggest roadblock was, of course, Adventure Aquarium in Camden.
Gordon said that there is enough distance between East Rutherford and Camden — almost 100 miles — for the Xanadu aquarium to "draw in an entirely different visitor base."I consider this good news (and actual news after the last three posts of BS) and reassuring that this delay is for a good purpose (and porpoise hehe. Puns aren't funny? Shut up.). I really do like aquariums and can't wait to visit this place and then go fishing at the indoor lake."New Jersey is big enough to support two top-notch aquariums," Gordon said. "Allowing the developers of Xanadu to include an aquarium in their planning introduces an educational element to the facility."
By the way. I should be able to explain our secret surprise before the weekend. (Hopefully)

WHAT CAN XANA - DU 4 You

Loyal readers sorry I have been MIA for a bit, however I am back with vengeance. So I have been doing some digging on what Xanadu will DU for the state of New Jersey. So I comprised a list of things that will definitely benefit the GARDEN STATE. Check this out.
- WE WILL NO LONGER BE THE ARMPIT OF AMERICA
- As many know NJ is rarely respected being next door neighbors to the NY. However with Xanadu we will now have a land mark that will get us noticed by the rest of the country.
- CREATE JOBS
- Xanadu has created 20,000 jobs during its creation and will single handedly create over 20,000 full-time and part-time jobs. The economist have got to love this one since we are struggling, Xanadu is doing its share to help out our economy.
- IMPROVEMENT ON TRANSPORTATION IN THE GARDEN STATE
- To those of us that have tried public transportation in the Garden State we know it is awful actually down right none existent. However with the construction of this Holy Land, tens of millions of dollars will be spent on Road as well as the NJ transit (YEAHHHH) We will now have a way to get to the Holy Land without having to put money in EXXON and CHEVRON's pockets on a daily basis. I tell you my fellow fans this could not have come at a better time. Do you not agree?
Thats it for now but look forward to more updates as we get closer. I am still working on getting this hit counter sorted out. 14 months until complete serenity.

Bergen Ballpark
Some players of note in this league are:
- John Halama: played in 9 major league seasons with the Astros, Mariners, A's, Rays, Red Sox, Nationals and Orioles.
- Carl Everett: Two time all-star who once broke up Mike Mussina's perfect game at Fenway by swinging at a pitch over his head and singling to center. I'm not bitter. I prefer to think of him for some of his off the field exploits. My favorite is his denial of the existence of dinosaurs:
God created the sun, the stars, the heavens and the earth, and then made Adam and Eve. The Bible never says anything about dinosaurs. You can't say there were dinosaurs when you never saw them. Somebody actually saw Adam and Eve. No one ever saw a Tyrannosaurus rex.
- Eric Crozier: played 14 games for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2004 and I somehow remembered that while looking at some of the rosters.
- Curtis Pride: Best known for being a deaf baseball player, he played 11 major league seasons.
- Brandon Knight: Played 11 games for the Yankees in 01 and 02.
- Few others that I don't feel like listing.

I'm Back!!
- Xanadu looks awesome from the air. Yeah, I saw it from the plane. It was so awesome. I went to grab my camera, but I don't own a camera. Then I went to grab my phone but I was on the plane. Sorry no pictures.
- Southern folk have never heard of Xanadu. I was shocked. Nobody. I tried to teach them by showing them newspapers and interweb articles, which unfortunately led to my arrest. They charged me with using written words in North Carolina. Luckily for me, I was acquitted when no body could prove that they were in fact, written words. Phew.... Not really true but you'd believe it wouldn't you?
- Glad to be home and I will be keeping you all updated as times change.

Away for a few days
In the mean time, Xana Du Me may be able to post but he has time constraints of his own. He also should be adding a hitcounter at some point so I have conformation that I am not writing this for only myself.
Also, we may be adding a new member to the staff. Last I heard he was trying to come up with a witty Xanadu related log in name. We all know how long that can take.
Thoughts about the delay
- Traffic: Without the train station and any other traffic easers ready, getting there would be an absolute nightmare, especially during home games of the World Champion New York Football Giants. Oh, the Jets play there too. Anyway, it would be impossible to get to Xanadu for a day trip. You'd get there and it would be time to leave.
- Major Attractions: I want to wait for most of the attractions to be near ready on the grand opening day. It wouldn't be really cool to go and not have the snow dome ready (get it? not funny? whatever, I don't care if you like my jokes anyway). I do expect them to stagger the openings so there can be multiple grand openings, thats just good business, but to have an opening in a construction site would not be a good idea. Since there is a delay, I have to assume that the attractions are taking longer than expected due to complexity and awesomeness.
- The Economy: I guess I can see the point about stores being hesitant, however, I think Xanadu will have a certain immunity to economic downturns. With its proximity to NYC and its having its own hotel, I imagine that foreign tourists will take advantage of the currency exchange and visit when the US is struggling. But for the grand opening, I'd prefer locals and die hards to be the majority of the people there, not dirty, elitist foreigners.

Just a quick note

An interview with Security Guard Whitney
1) As is posted in the the snow dome update, the temperature will be 28 degrees year round.
2) There will be and indoor lake, probably at the Cabelas, that will be stocked with fish to try out the fishing gear. We heard the rumors but its nice to get some confirmation.
3) Most importantly, Whitney told us that the delay in opening is due to the addition of an aquarium. We still have not seen an official announcement about the aquarium but this is our second unofficial confirmation (the first being in the reason for the delay in the article posted a few posts early).
Unfortunately, we are not completely sure of the reliability of Whitney. He is only a security guard. Also, he told us that the delay was only 3 months. Does he know something we don't? Did they tell us August 09 so we'd be surprised by the earlier opening? Doubtful. A 3 month delay would put the opening February 09. That doesn't make much sense. August opens Xanadu in time for back to school and then the holiday season.
So what do we take from Whitney? The snow dome being kept at 28 degrees year round makes sense to us. The snow needs to stay frozen and they wouldn't make it unbearably cold. But it is nice to have a solid number. I believe there will be an indoor lake with fish at Cabelas. I read something about that earlier and its something that a Cabelas would have. I just never was able to completely comprehend the awesomeness. And I do think that there will eventually be an aquarium, especially if the biggest obstacle is the aquarium in Camden. Seriously, Camden? However, I am most skeptical about the aquarium. Obviously, there has been no official announcement (we would have a post on it, duh), and it is possible that Whitney was just reporting on the rumor. I just can't see Camden stopping this from happening.
Helping you Experience our Trip (Part III)
We also got a glimpse of the potential area of the Pepsi Globe. We are not certain where it will be but the most logical place based on the prelim designs are facing NYC. So check out this video...
Helping you experience our trip (Part II)
This is one of my favorite pictures we got a hold of. Its a pretty awesome shot. You can see the multiple views. Looking at the roof now, something that we missed before, is the work on the outdoor movie screen? I can't tell. I wish we could get up there.
Self explanatory sign. We liked it.
A picture of Xanadu and possibly a parking garage?
More Jonas Brothers/Miley Cyrus fans enjoying the music of, well, we're not sure because we didn't care and why bother walking all the way over there through a crowd of screaming 12 year old girls.
I picture under the snow dome. Our best guess is that this part will be parking.
Helping you experience our trip (Part I)
This is our first sighting of the landscape. The excitement was tangible.
A view from the road of the IZOD center. Our interview with security guard Whitney taught us that the future of the IZOD center was still up for debate. Some sides say keep it for concerts and large events. Others say tear it down. On the way home we debated what should replace it if it is in fact torn down. We couldn't come up with much. What doesn't it already have? I think my stance is that they should keep it for bigger concerts and major events. If they come up with an awesome replacement idea though, I'd reconsider.
More to come!
Snow Dome Progress
That picture gives a nice view of the snow dome. Its pretty high for an indoor place. So majestic.
The snow dome from the side. This picture is taken from the top of a four story parking garage so the dome is higher than it looks. Like how the sun comes down, its holy isn't it.
Thats the closest to the inside we could get (not that we didn't try).
According to security guard Whitney, the snow dome will be kept at 28 degrees year round. Awesome.
TODAY IS THE DAY

.............. So you will never believe what happened. We came, We saw, We Xanadid.................
So we took a trip to the Xanadu Land and got you footage and images. I mean so much so that we almost got arrested. Yeap I said it arrested. We walked into to a construction only zone, tried to pick a lock and had a security (toy) cop follow us around. It was a crazy day, disguised as two regular Jonas Brothers fans (Concert in Progress) we walked around the complex searching for ways in to bring you images and footage. Well my fellow Xanaduians, we did. We pulled it off. You will see in some coming soon blogs we were hoping that we would find many to interview, but we could only get some quotes from Whitney the security guard. He gave us some insight into the delays we will keep you posted. We came, We saw, We Xanadid...................

I Feel Cold
Why the delay?
Complex construction for several unique tenants — the project includes an indoor snow dome, a 3,400-seat concert hall and an aquarium — was cited by the developers as the chief cause of the delay. That was sort of my thought too. Oh and is this confirmation of the aquarium? I'll keep my eyes open.
Turns out that traffic issues also played a role as the railway would not have been ready until Spring 09 anyway.
"Traffic concerns are the No. 1 issue that I am confronted with," said Jim Kirkos, president of the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce. "If the delay allows the roadwork and mass-transit projects to catch up, it's hard for me to look at that as a long-term negative. It's also important that the project gets done right."Not only will the traffic be bad from the pilgrimages to this wonderful dreamland, but opening in the middle of football season would only make the driving worse.
There is also some thought that the slumping economy could have had some impact on the decision.
"I would say that probably what's happening here is more a sign of the times than it is a sign of Xanadu's problems," said Chuck Lanyard, president of the Goldstein Group, a retail real estate firm in Fair Lawn. "With the economic slowdown that we're experiencing, they probably need more time to bring these anchors in and do some more negotiating."In addition, they probably want to wait for improved consumer confidence as well as a more aggressive retail industry.
"Everyone expects that the economy is going to turn around midyear [2009]," said Medina, the former state commerce secretary whose office is directly across Route 3 from the Xanadu site. "So, you open up an incredibly beautiful venue in the summer. You make a huge splash. And hopefully you could then have tremendous success that will carry on for the rest of the year."The bad news for us is that we have to go through another holiday shopping season at the Garden State Plaza, Palisades mall or Willowbrook Mall. What a let down. I can't finish a post on such a negative thought.

The DU's Movie Theater
According to Wikipedia, it is now 18 theaters. Luckily, the 60-foot outdoor screen should still be there. I've never been to an outdoor theater due to the death of the drive-in, so I'm really looking forward to this. And if I have a few bucks to spare, I'll go in style:
October 2004 (Newstream)-Muvico Theaters, Inc. and The Mills Corporation jointly announced that industry leader Muvico Theaters will build a 26-screen, 6,500-seat 160,000-square-foot megaplex movie theater at Meadowlands Xanadu, the 4.8 million-square-foot family entertainment, shopping and office complex in Northern New Jersey. Megaplex plans include a Premier Level with nine balcony auditoriums and a full-service restaurant and bar plus a 15,000 square foot rooftop terrace featuring a 60-foot outdoor screen for outdoor movie viewing with a helipad and private access for VIPs to the Premier Level.
I don't expect to be able to do that often, but we will certainly attempt to get you all the photos necessary so you can have the experience without leaving your mother's basement (thats right, I can see you. Everyone knows that bloggers and blog readers live in their mother's basements, only seeing the light of day to go to star trek or super hero conventions - END RANT).For Premier Level guests with more limited time, a full-service bar offers the full restaurant menu as well. In addition, two separate premium concession stands will offer Premier moviegoers the traditional popcorn and candy, along with fresh daily sushi selections; freshly prepared gourmet sandwiches, pizzas and salads; crab and artichoke dip; desserts; draft beer, wine and splits of champagne.
Every Premier Level balcony has stadium-style seating, Muvico's custom-designed, sumptuous, single and double rocking (love seat-style) sofas and state-of-the-art visual and audio technology, that allows Premier Level moviegoers to screen the latest films-while enjoying a cocktail or dessert and coffee-in ultimate comfort. Premier level guests will enjoy a unique combination of private-club-like gathering, full-service bar, private dining room, and the ultimate in luxurious and state-of-the-art movie screening experiences.
I only expect the best and I will try to update this if I find a more recent article.

Hang Ten at Xanadu
Adrenalina, a Miami-based entertainment and apparel company, has signed a lease to open a store at Xanadu in East Rutherford. The stores sell extreme sports equipment such as wakeboards, skateboards and wet suits, as well as bathing suits, board shorts, T-shirts and sunglasses. The idea behind it is that people will see the wave pool and want to go surfing but, oh no, they don't have their swim stuff! Well I guess they need to buy some. Genius.
How does it work?
The Flowrider, a water ride found at outdoor amusement parks, shoots jets of water up an inclined slope. The rushing water creates the effect of surfing the top of a wave. Customers pay $20 for a 30-minute session in the Flowrider.Snowboard in the morning at the snow dome, surf in the afternoon. I don't surf or snowboard but might just learn how. Totally rad dude! Hang Ten! Surfs Up! [insert other surfing terms here].
The Pepsi Globe
I only have one word for you: Dude!!!!1!1!!one!!eleven!!
I have seen some debate between friends and family as the how awesome it will look as the Pepsi sign. In my opinion there are two choices. a) awesome and b) the most awesome.
The Pepsi logo is probably the only logo that could look that awesome in this case.
Not only does it look awesome, but its environmentally friendly:
The Pepsi Globe will be green powered year round, with energy obtained through the purchase of wind power credits from a Texas generating plant, and it will be at least partially made from recycled materials.Get a haircut ya damn hippies who are angry about this project.
What will the ride be like?
Pepsi will offer unique interactive experiences during the Pepsi Globe ride, which will last approximately 25 minutes for a full revolution and offer sweeping vistas of the New York skyline and the Hudson River. Groups of up to 20 visitors each will enter 26 glass-enclosed, climate controlled capsules for the ride of a lifetime. Not only will you get a great view of the mall, but you will be able to see the famous New York City Sky Line.
This is a great idea and once the

XANADU ALERT

Breaking NEWS an AQUARIUM IN THE "DU" could it be. ÂThe Meadowlands Xanadu shopping and entertainment complex could include a massive aquarium if state law is changed to allow it, according to the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.
A bill permitting an aquarium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex was introduced by state Assemblymen Fred Scalera (D-Essex) and Gary Schaer (D-Passaic), and referred to the Assembly's tourism and gaming committee.
No state money would be used to build or operate it, according to Schaer and Carl Goldberg, the sports authority's chair.
"The first question that everyone is going to ask is the financial consequences," Schaer said today. "I'm not willing to join in with a bill that's going to cost the state money in a time when we don't have money."
The developers of the $2 billion Xanadu complex are in talks with an undisclosed private company that runs aquariums, Goldberg said. Xanadu's main backer is Colony Capital, a private equity firm.
The state law that now prohibits an aquarium at the sports complex was designed to prevent competition with the aquarium in Camden, but Xanadu is about a two-hour drive away, so it shouldn't hurt that facility's business, Goldberg said.
"Hopefully people will come to the conclusion that there shouldn't be any disruption," he said.
The Camden attraction, known as Adventure Aquarium, is run by Herschend Family Entertainment, which took over the facility in December. Its previous operator was Steiner + Associates.
Greg Charbeneau, executive director of the aquarium, said Camden's facility is "extremely successful," with nearly a million visitors a year, and it stopped receiving state subsidies in 2005.
He said he wasn't aware of the state law banning an aquarium at the Meadowlands. But he cautioned that Xanadu's aquarium would face intense competition from other attractions in the metropolitan area, including the aquariums in Camden and Brooklyn.
"They've got to take a look at the market and make sure that business would be viable," he said. "In this industry there's only so many expenses you can trim or shave."
The animals need high-quality food, careful attention to their living conditions and the staff needs to be top-notch, he said.
He added, there is a "tremendous amount of water circulating around a building that has miles of electrical conduits. It takes a certain level of expertise."
Goldberg said the aquarium operator negotiating with Xanadu "is really world renowned for ecologically sensitive and very well structured aquarium experiences."
The enormous tank would be visible both from outside and inside the complex, acting as a wall of the building, according to the developer's plans, Goldberg said.
Lloyd Kaplan, a spokesman for Xanadu, declined to give any details about the aquarium plans, but he said developers "are pleased that consideration is being given to the possible addition of an aquarium to the array of entertainment and retail attractions" at the complex.
The complex, due to open in November, will include an indoor ski slope, skydiving wind tunnels and an 18-screen cinema.LEGO LAND IS HERE

Legoland to Open at Meadowlands Xanadu
XANADU – IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME

East Rutherford, NJ – “Xanadu” – Merriam-Webster describes the word as a luxurious place. An understatement if you ask any true Xanadu followers and fanatics. Meadowlands Xanadu will be the largest retail complex in the United States and third largest in the world measuring 2,5000,00 square feet. It has everything you could ever need, entertainment, sports, retail, office and hotel space. New Jersey will no longer be called the “Arm Pit of America” when the great Xanadu rises from the ashes in the Fall of 2008. Derived from a similar project in Madrid, Spain the mall will be visible from the New Jersey Turnpike and will feature some of the greatest manmade objects.
Main Features
- Snowdome: A 250,000 sq ft (23,000 m²) indoor ski resort that will be open year round. It is the first indoor ski resort in the U.S. (THAT IS UNREAL HONESTLY).
- SkyVenture: A state-of-the-art skydiving simulator and Vertical wind tunnel.
- Bergen Ballpark at the Meadowlands: The Bergen Ballpark at the Meadowlands will be a 8,000-seat baseball-only stadium housing a minor league baseball team।

There will also be live fishing demonstrations, indoor archery and boating lessons.’
- AEG Live!: a 3,400 capacity live theater by Anschultz Entertainment Group that will hold concerts and other live performances. It will be "sister to the Nokia Theater in Times Square, NYC.
- Muvico Theaters: As the country's largest theater, the 18-screen, 160,000 sq ft (15,000 m²). Egyptian-themed Muvico will host film festivals and opening-night premieres. The theater will feature 18 wall-to-wall movie screens, stadium-seating, on-line advance ticketing, valet parking, a children's playroom, a Premier Level with its own restaurant and bar and nine balcony auditoriums with oversized loveseats, and a colossal rooftop terrace featuring a 60-foot (18 m) outdoor screen.
- Lucky Strike: An upscale bowling lounge that brings together bowling and entertainment, visitors will bowl in an intimate contemporary decor with a 1930's/1940' feel while enjoying American cuisine in an upscale restaurant and lounge.
- LegoLand: the largest in the U.S.
- It's Sugar!: The largest specialty sweets store in the world, visitors will travel across a candy-themed bridge over a 30-foot (9.1 m) chocolate waterfall into a 36,000-square-foot (3,300 m²) city created out of sweets where they can enjoy a candy-themed elevated ride and candy museum. (SUGAR RUSH ANYONE)
(CAN YOU IMAGINE ALL THIS IN A MALL)
Well so far this is all I will post. I will be investigating the construction site shortly and posting up interviews and pictures. Stay tuned folks this will be a duzy.
